Cap in spaaaace!

I have liked Rick Remender since his early days on Fear Agent.

This story has a little, O.K. a lot, of the feel that Fear Agent had. Although Captain America and Heath Huston are two very different characters and Remender is a good enough writer that Cap doesn't come across as Huston in Cap's clothing.

I normally can't stand John Romita Jr as an artist, his cover to Captain America #1 was absolutely hideous, but here he is tolerable. I especially like the flashback scenes to Cap's youth. There is a definite switch in style that I really wasn't sure that Romita would be able to pull off, but he does it here. Although the boy, Ian looks like he is a girl in every single panel he is in. Also, why is he clean all the time while Cap seems like he has been living on an alien planet in the same clothes for over a year?

This issue seemed to take parts from "The Road" where Cap takes on a father role to Ian while wandering toward an unknown destination and pondering both his future and the boy's future all the while they have to overcome the obstacles that are thrown in their path.

The biggest issue I have is with Cap having been away for over a year. Who is the guy over in Uncanny Avengers and Avengers? While Cap is off in another dimension, how is he having a latte with Thor?

It's not a big deal and doesn't really affect this book, but it's something that popped into my head.

Anyway, this is a strong entry into the Marvel Now initiative and this book has taken the place of Indestructible Hulk as my favorite of the Now titles.
