The Joker’s Daughter has come to Bludhaven. Last time we saw the psychotic killer (that I can remember), she was with Red Hood and Arsenal before Hood attacked her. Now, she comes to the home of the Nightwings with her most sinister plot yet…..being a hero to the homeless? Ugh. Is this Ric Grayson thing over yet?
(Spoilers Incoming)
We start with two of the Nightwings, Zak and Hutch discussing the vigilante life. Zak expresses that after being shot by Scarecrow, he is not sure if he is cut out for life as a hero. They then see people outside panicking and running out of a restaurant. They call the rest of the team and suit up. On the other side of the city, Detective Sap and Ric are discussing Ric’s role in the Nightwings moving forward. They make the deal that unless the team needs Ric, he’ll stay out of their way and vice versa. As they go their separate ways, Ric prepares to drive off before Sap jumps in the cab and tells him an emergency has come up. The two speed off to the site of the problem. As two of the Nightwings arrive, they discover that one of two exits has been welded shut. Ric and Sap arrive in their vigilante gear in time to realize there are bombs planted throughout the restaurant. As the Nightwings begin to disarm them, Ric comes face to face with Joker’s Daughter. As the Nightwings disarm the final bombs, Joker’s Daughter makes her escape, but the heroes expect to see her again soon.
Later, Ric is in his cab about to go home, when a woman approaches his cab. He tells her that he’s off duty, only to look up and see that the woman is Barbara Gordon. She tells him that she’s sorry for not giving Ric a chance and trying to get Dick back. He responds that while he was in the hospital, he knew everything would be ok, because every time he opened his eyes, Barbara was there. She then tells him how proud she is of how far he’s come and that Dick would be too.
Ok, it was an alright issue. But I really don’t care anymore. It’s to the point where I don’t care what happens in the story anymore. This Ric Grayson experiment is a failure. I was open to it at first, but it just won’t end. DC took maybe its most beloved hero and completely unmade him. Now we sit here and read these issues in which Ric dresses like it’s Arrow season 1 without the hood and wait for it to be over. For me, the only part of this issue I enjoyed was Barbara. She and Dick were so close to getting together before he got shot, and now we just have fragments of that relationship left. I hope and pray that one day very soon, Ric Grayson will be nothing more than a bad memory we can all leave behind. Was it an alright idea at the beginning? Yes. Did it work out like I’m sure DC wanted? NO. In the long run, the only thing I can say about Ric is this has been one of the most boring runs I’ve put myself through.
