Underrated Awesomeness.

First a little backround: Waverider began life as Matthew Ryder a scientist from a future ruled by an armored despot named Monarch who had killed all the heroes. Matthew Ryder created a time machine under the watchful eye of Monarch to journey into the past and change history. He convinced Monarch to let him be the guinea pig in his own device, and Monarch agreed, believing Matthew Ryder, like all the previous test subjects, would die in the process. Matthew Ryder however survived, merging with the time-stream and transforming into Waverider, a super-powered human being with mastery of the art of time-travelling. Traveling back to the past, he searched for the hero who would become Monarch. Looking into the possible futures of Earth's Greatest Heroes, including the Justice League of America, the Teen Titans, Captain Atom, & the Hawks (to name a few) always prepared to end the threat to the future. After the events of Armageddon 2001 & Armageddon Inferno Waverider eventually joined the Linear Men, a group devoted to maintaining the time-stream. He could be anywhere in time...! Waverider is one of my personal favorite underdog heroes who receives very little respect despite his powers, if you’ve read Armageddon 2001 (despite the lackluster ending) you have to be impressed with the imagery of him standing there with his hand around a heroes heart waiting to squeeze it if his possible future revealed him to be Monarch. With the right storyteller and retcon Waverider would be a force to be reckoned with in the DCU!
