Anyone remember Marvel's crossover from around 1989-1990 called "
Acts of Vengeance"?
The
premise was simple:
Loki (
in the disguise of a slicked-back black haired...CEO or something)... assembles a little consortium of villains such as
Red Skull, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Mandarin and Kingpin to co-ordinate attacks against the Marvel Heroes.
The
strategy: change dancing partners: "
Hey Grey Gargoyle! You're used to getting your @$$ kicked by Thor! Why not try your hand at fighting...The HULK?!?"
"
Venom! I think you can take down Quasar!"
The
problem: Not
ONLY did the villains still get their butts handed to them by the most of the good guys, but heck, the
villains spent half the series battling each other!
I'm sorry, but this series is nothing more than a dumbed-down version of "
Acts of Vengeance" with worse artwork. You mean to
HONESTLY tell me, Victor Von Doom...
DOCTOR FLIPPIN' DOOM...is going to let
Norman Osborne run the show? What's he hope to accomplish? At least back then we had
John Byrne, Paul Ryan, Ron Frenz, Jeff Purves and other talented classic Marvel artists doing the artwork.
Alex Maleev doesn't suit this title
AT ALL. Give him a DOOM mini-series and let him have at it.
Norman Osborne has become the Lex Luthor of the Marvel Universe. *sighs*
Originality, people.
I thought this series had a modicum of potential, but
Marvel has let their opening salvo out, and it's a
bottle rocket. Buy this one if you intend on collecting them all, but if this book is anything like the other future
DARK REIGN crossovers...it's going to be a
LOOOOOOONG 2009.
