Of late (over the past 2 or 3 years), I have been really disappointed that Marvel has been disclosing every back story ever hinted at in the Marvel Universe. I've just felt as though they have been taking the imaginative, mysterious romance out of the medium. This issue definitely does not fall into that category.
One of the most intriguing characters on the Thunderbolt roster for some time now has been Ghost, the intangible, tech savvy conspiracy theorist. One of the most intriguing things about this character was his mysterious past. Nobody knew who he really was or how he came about his elusive powers. Until this issue that is.
Issue #151 is dedicated to telling the world the story of the Ghost. Fisrt off, I guess as readers we have to ask ourselves whether we trust the narrator or not. Ghost is the one telling the story, so right away I have misgivings about the stories validity. One who has guarded his privacy so close probably wouldn't be so quick to divulge this information, to Moonstone no less!
Ghost's origin story is no surprise, but it is still very well told. Jeff Parker weaves this tale as though he created the character himself. We are never given Ghost's real name (as it is always carefully "black barred" out) but we do get a glimpse into his former life and what turned him into the cynical maniac he is today.
This is one of the best books on the market right now. Add the fact that Luke Cage has just added Hyperion to the team and well...you have the most dangerous team on the planet! Luke Cage, Moonstone, Songbird, Ghost, Juggernaut, Man Thing, Fixer and Mach V now round up a team that could man-handle ANY team in the Marvel U.
So my only question is, "If you aren't already reading this book, why not?"
