This series is starting to pick up steam for me. I was a little unsure at the beginning, but now...I think I like it!
Veil keeps the pattern of bad decision making going by taking it upon herself to release who she believes to be Wasp, from the Under Dimension. Of course, if it were merely that simple Hank Pym would have done so long ago. But what would the Academy be if not for the poor judgement of its pupils?
Turns out it wasn't Wasp that Pym was monitoring in the parallel dimension, but the long thought dead, Corina Walters. Now normally this wouldn't present as a problem. Sure, she is the daughter of the cosmic power, The Collector, but how bad could it be? How about throwing in the fact that she is the wife of the mad demi-God, Korvac! So Korvac shows up, and all hell breaks loose.
Korvac makes short work of the Mighty Avengers, the New Avengers and Pym's band of merry Avengers; whatever they might be calling themselves these days. The Thor beat down is actually pretty cool to see!
All seems lost when Walters imbues the Academy kids with the powers they will have when they grow up. Christos Gage leaves us with this image as the final page.
"So what's the big deal?", you're probably asking! I see this as a potential pivotal point for this young team. Personally, I would like to see the creative team use this as the opportunity to turn them into the new super baddie group. I don't think they have the guts, but time will tell.
Tom Raney does a nice job on a book that is chalk full of characters to draw. And Mike McKone and Jeromy Cox provide us with a nice looking cover.
So, here's looking forward to issue number 12!
