Getting a little too busy

"Big Time" is turning out to be good ol' fashioned comic book fun. Everything from Ramos' art to cheesy romance problems makes me nostalgic for the 1980's comic book scene all over again!

Spider-Man escapes death by flaming plasma sword at the hands of the new Hobgoblin, just by the skin of his teeth. Well, that and a classic last second scam that helps keep his secret identity a secret. Unfortunately, Hobgoblin was able to escape with the reverbium (artificial vibramium.)

Parker's smack down at the hands of the new Hobgoblin, along with his new found science resources, inspire him to create a new suit to ensure he is better prepared for this new foe.

I really enjoyed the awkward tension when both Carlie (Parker's girlfriend) and MJ (Parker's ex-girlfriend) show up at the lab at the same time to bring him lunch. Poor Parker, must be rough having two super hot chicks throwing themselves at you! Anyhow, Dan Slott whips up some dialogue for this moment that would make Bendis jealous!

It was interesting to see the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk, involved with the Hobgoblin. Something I didn't care for though was the introduction of yet another villain, the Spider Slayer. At this point in time in the book I felt a strange sense of déjà vu, with images of the movie Spider-Man 3 going through my head! The nice thing about Spider-Man is that he is a simple hero. Do us all a favour Slott, and keep him that way.

All in all, this was an enjoyable read. I know I have said this before, but I find it interesting the way that Humberto Ramos has toned down his stylized lines for this book.

Welcome to my monthly "pull list" Amazing Spider-Man!
