At first glance, I thought this comic was going to be a huge pile of trash. One that would be read quickly, not enjoyed, bagged & boarded and placed into a long-box downstairs never to be dug out again.
But, after reading this through last night before I went to bed, I think this is one comic I will be certainly digging out at another point in the near future for a re-read, because I enjoyed it.
Prejudices aside, this was decent once you got into it. I thought it was good because it had real structure to the story. It was an increasingly wacky story the further you got into it, but it was 'well-handled wackyness' and thus was enjoyable!
It all made sense and fitted in with continuity nicely.
It felt far from rushed, as I thought it would, and had a nice flow to it. An incredibly nice flow to it as a matter of fact.
The story was about this character called Reptil, and it explored his powers and abilities and the issue's aim was to document his short input with The Initiative. Without spoiling too much, this story involves lots of Dinosaurs!
That's the main reason I probably enjoyed this, it re-kindled me childhood passion for dinosaurs and made me realise why I loved them as a kid!
So if you liked dinosaurs as a child, then pick this up, its a key slice of nostalgia and very enjoyable!
The artwork was good, Uy's artwork has been growing on my lately and it would be a lie to say it didn't work here. It was nice.
All in all, its just damn great fun!
But believe me when I say that it certainly get wackier and wackier as it moves forward. But have faith, because it is all handled very well indeed!
