This was a prime example of what a good comic book looks like! Kieron Gillen (Writer) and Billy Tan (Artist) weave an action packed tale that represents the second last chapter of the Latverian Prometheus story arc.
Anyone who has been following my ongoing reviews of this series knows that my biggest complaint has been the absence of Thor himself in the books. Well, I guess I have nothing more to complain about, because he comes back in grand fashion in issue 605! Nothing beats Thor unleashing on some super powerful villain. In this issue Dr. Doom plays the role of villain and he gets punched through more than a couple of castle walls! Lots of thunder, lots of lightning and a quick pace keep this issue flowing nicely.
I particularly liked the flashback scenes depicted while Balder is fighting off the cybernetic Asgardians. It gave the battle a sense of purpose and allowed the reader to see every sword stroke through the eyes of the current Asgardian King.
Like any good story that involves Doom though, this battle is far from over. Just when it looks as though Thor will save the day, Victor von Doom releases the secret weapon that he has been constructing ever since the arrival of the Asgardians in his home country. With one more issue left in the story arc, things look bleak for our golden haired God of Thunder.
This was an excellent book, which has renewed my faith in this character.
