Okay, so you have my favourite character, Magik. You have my favourite setting, Limbo. You have a terrific writer in Chris Yost. Throw in S'ym, N'Astirh and the New X-Men and you have pretty much everything I love about comics behind one cover. So then, why didn't I like this story?
For starters, it felt like filler. And you can't have a filler issue in a 3 part mini-series! There just aren't enough issues to waste one.
Secondly, it is almost as though Yost is starting a completely separate story arc. Focus on Second Coming people. The Gambit angle is too much. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Marvel has never destroyed a potentially great character the way they have destroyed Gambit.
The only redeeming quality of this book is the hint of vengeance. Sure the New X-Men are helping find Magik. But that doesn't change the fact that they hate her. The Pixie Magic confrontation could be huge.
This storyline had all of the potential in the world, and Yost just dropped the ball with it.
