So Batman returns with a new face, and as does Robin!
I think I'm just about up to scratch on who is who now after
'Battle For The Cowl', and which characters are still around and those who aren't.
Anyway, all my questions and mild confusion aside (I'm not all that confused in all honesty, it just seems like all this character re-shuffle has been playing with my mind) this issue see's the start of a new BATMAN AND ROBIN on-going series!
This is pretty much what Bats-fans like myself have been waiting for, for a while.
So it's here. Written and drawn by the creative duo, (also credited for the amazing
'All-Star Superman' series) Grant Morrison and Frank Quitley.
First off, I think Grant Morrison was a good choice to have for this series, and kind of a no-brainer, he knows Batman like the back of his hand now in my opinion. He just finished
'Batman R.I.P' and that was great! So I'm glad to have him on board for this.
Frank Quitley's artwork is nice in here as well, it works well.
Onto the story itself in this issue.
As far as first issue's go, this was a solid, well structured first glimpse at what to expect from this series in the future. It set out a good atmosphere and layed the characters straight out so you know who is who.
We are instantly thrown into seeing Batman and Robin taking down their first villain together and they start fighting crime properly! It's great to see and the relationship between them both is a bit shabby at the moment, but I can sense they're going to get closer as this series moves forward.
Towards the middle/end of the issue, you (as the reader) get dropped straight into the deep end, as Morrison throws the get's the fire going by kicking off this first story arc with interesting results!
A tense read, very serious. Not much humour yet, but it's only the first issue.
This issue to me, was just a small glimpse at what is yet to come. I have high hopes for this on-going series from this first issue, I hope it keeps on in this fashion.
