This trade was a very satisfying and entertaining read. The Scorpion: The Devil's Mark is a well executed story of religious intrigue of the highest level. Rome and Papacy is under the control of the nine families of ancient Rome that have used Christianity as the vessel for their insatiable thirst for power; they use all manners of terror to ensure they remain the dominant force. The winds of change are been felt and have found a kindred spirit in the Pope, but his actions will bring his death as well. The Scorpion is the only one that can stop the forces that manifest themselves as the Inquisition to uncover the conspiracy, but the Scorpion is the son of the devil, as the nine families would like the world to believe.
The intense action scenes and well crafted panels speak of a great sensitivity to the story and of historical knowledge. The use of space and perspective is used to great benefit resulting in the reader been immerse in the action as swords are withdrawn and crossed, horses are galloping in chase or escape, or people enjoy their beer and women in the saloons. The writing and translation are well done to ensure the reader stays with the action and fine details of the conspiracy are unraveled.
