In a recent thread we discussed Ultimatum and whether the violence in that series was just senseless or furthered the story. I, personally felt it was pointless. This book on the other hand is a good example of well placed violence that helps enhance the storytelling. And make no mistake, the team of Kyle/Yost (writers) and Choi/Oback (artists) treated readers to a little taste of "ultra-violence" this week!
As has been said many times in these forums, nobody is safe when being written by Kyle and Yost! And it is great. It keeps me on edge, always worried that they are going to "do away" with my favourite characters.
One of the criteria that endears a writer to me is if I can relate to their characterization of a hero or villain. My favourite is when a writer can make me genuinely hate a character. X-23's "nemesis", Kimura falls into this category. The fact that a sadistic person like that is left to live (I know, I know, it's only a comic Cape!) just angers me.
This was a great book, with some exceptional moments. If I could ask one thing of the creative team it would be, "Give me more Warpath!"
