As I read Kato: Origins there is in increasing feeling that this title is outshining the other Green Hornet titles, even thought they are by most accounts quite well executed comics. But Kato: Origins has a vibrancy that resonates more to my taste; the mystery and humanity in Kato and all that he represents leaps out from each title like no other comic in recent memory. The internal monologue adds to this closeness with the character; one actually understands his point of view and empathizes with it thus increasing the reader’s involvement with the story. The mood as represented in the colors and inks in each panel evokes the sensation of actual witnessing the events portrait on the page. This immersion in the action has no parallel in my limited exposure to what I consider other great titles. This series has become more than simply a back story to the main Green Hornet title; it has become the series to look for and anxiously wait every month.
