Wow! I must have, "SUCKER" written all over my forehead. This book sucked and I can't believe I wasted the calories it took to lift it off the comic store shelf, let alone my hard earned money.
I am so glad that the senior staff at Marvel thinks so little of their readers as to pass this off as acceptable merchandise bearing the Marvel name.
Being a long-time Avengers fan and a huge admirer of the classic "Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet" premise, I was excited by this book. I had no illusions that it would hold in current continuity (Thanos is currently occupied deep within the Fault), and was sure that some liberties would have to be taken to make this story fly. But this was too much!
Issue #1 (of 4) read more like an issue of MAD Magazine rather than The Avengers. Writer Brian Clevinger tried way too hard to be funny...ALL THE TIME!!! I know Atomic Robo fans won't appreciate me saying that, but come on! This is freakin Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, not Archie marries Veronica! I suppose it is Brian Churilla's art that makes this issue feel like an issue of MAD the most. His style is far too 'cartoony' for my tastes. And that is saying something considering I love Humberto Ramos (he did the cover!)
The ragtag collection of Avengers (Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Hulk and Dr. Doom) are travelling to the centre of the universe via an intergalactic transport truck that is driven by a hick farm-hand.
Don't waste your money or time on this book. It is a waste of paper, ink and any other natural resource used to print it.
