About Special Marvel Edition
Originally spawned as an outgrowth of Marvel's reprint anthologies, Special Marvel Edition started as a 64-page, square-bound format, priced at $.25, featuring multiple stories.
Marvel's foray into reprints started with Marvel Tales in September 1964 as a means to republish early tales, and carried four titles. It was soon joined by Marvel Collectors' Item Classics and Marvel Super-Heroes. As the collection of titles expanded, Marvel gave each character its own reprint title.
Marvel Special Edition first existed as a home for Thor reprints that followed a run in Marvel Tales, ending with issue #27, the last Thor reprint issue of that title.
The title switched over to single story reprints of Sgt. Fury issues as of issue #5 through #14 before turning into a trial platform for new material with the wildly successful Master of Kung Fu. The title was concluded with issue #16, and renamed Master of Kung Fu.
