Item Biography

"The Doomsmith Scenario!"
Chapter Two: "Death O'er Valhalla High!"

Thirteen Mutants in a room. The gathered masses of old and new X-Men decide mutually that this amount is too much for the Westchester Mansion of Charles Xavier to contain.

The original members inform Xavier that it's time for them to move on, having grown up as men and women ready to face the world on their own terms. Only Cyclops remains. Partly due to his sense of loyalty and duty as team leader, and partly due to his lack of confidence fully controlling his powers in a civilian life.

Over the next few weeks Cyclops rides his new charges hard in an effort to forge them into a team. It doesn't happen as smoothly as intended, as members, Wolverine and Thunderbird, display certain maverick 'loner' traits which could jeopardize future missions.

Count Nefaria has infiltrated Valhalla mountain installation, via the Ani-Men, with a view to seize command of the Doomsmith system, thereby controlling all missiles in the entire United States armaments.

Nefaria broadcasts his demands. Like any covetous criminal, money is involved. Lots of money. Every nation in the world must pay him a proportionate ransom, otherwise Nefaria will launch the missiles. He gives a three hour limit for the nations to accede. Little does he know that the safety mechanisms are over-ridden in less time than that. Once activated, the missiles will launch automatically.

In place of the Avengers, the X-Men are mobilized to liberate Valhalla mountain. A huge test awaits the neophyte band of Mutants.

Continued from Giant-Size X-Men #1.
First appearance of new X-Men in ongoing title.
