*In the second century of man, the gods of Akashik created the divine warrior Devi to fight the renegade Dark Lord Bala. Centuries later when Bala arose again, threatening worlds of god and men, Devi was reincarnated in Tara Mehta, a young woman in Sitapur.
Co-existing with Tara thanks to the intervention of Agantuk, a priest of the Durapasya, Devi defeated Bala once again. She was aided by inspector Rahul Singh of Sitapur police, who seemingly plunged to his death in an abyss. Unbeknownst to our heroine, Agantuk managed to save inspector Singh, who has lapsed into a coma.
With her initial mission accomplished and intrigued by the emotions she experienced in Tara's mind, Devi defied the gods who asked her to return to Akashik. She must now come to terms with the role of protector of Sitapur and champion of mankind. However, things are not all rosy as Tara's mind is reeling under the strain of carrying the divine essence, and the razor clawed Apsara assassin Kratha, originally hired by Bala to kill Devi, has survived their first duel. The Apsara is back and now is determined to make good on her contract. *Source: Devi #12
