*In the second century of man, the gods of Akashik created the divine warrior Devi to fight the renegade Dark Lord Bala. Centuries later, when Bala rose again to threaten the worlds of god and men, Devi was reincarnated in Tara Mehta, a young woman in the city of Sitapur.
Coexisting with Tara thanks to the intervention of the priest Agantuk, Devi defeated Bala once again. She was aided by inspector Rahul Singh of the Sitapur police, who seemingly plunged to his death. Unbeknownst to our heroine, Agantuk managed to save Singh, who lapsed into an unusual coma.
With her initial mission accomplished, and intrigued by the emotions she encountered in Tara's mind, Devi defied the gods who had asked her to return to Akahik. Deciding to make Sitapur a better place, Devi went up against Ismael, the city's new mob boss. Defeated and humiliated by Devi in their first encounter, Ismael swore revenge. Meanwhile, the razor-clawed Apsara assassin Kratha hunts for Devi... *Source: Devi #13
