*An evil Darth Vader dominates this painting by Ralph McQuarrie, done before the filming began on STAR WARS. Thus, the "prototype" look of all the characters. It was McQuarrie who devised Vader's mask, believing the Dark Lord would need some breathing apparatus in space. George Lucas incorporated the look, but made the reason for the mask more significant. The art was used for the first edition STAR WARS paperback (back). *Source: Back of card.
