As commanding officer of the Research and Defense Unit, General Hammond commands SGC and all SG units. His standing orders are to analyze the threat potential of alien races, defend Earth from possible hostile invasion, and to analyze and recover technologies for study and further development. He is a hardened military leader, and a wise man who is willing to do whatever is necessary to defend the interests of his country and all of humanity.
