*The setting for the season one episode "Solitudes" was a glacial crevasse. I knew that Richard Hudolin would design and build a great set and the props department provided artificial ice for Carter to chip away, be we knew that something would be missing. The only way to sell cold is to see the breath of the actors. Martin Wood and I were discussing the problem when John Smith, our line producer, said "why don't we just refrigerate the stage?" And that's just what we did. Much of the ice and snow was real - courtesy of a local ice skating rink - and when Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping shivered, they weren't just acting. It was freezing in there.
