"With this painting, I tried to convey the sense that there's a story behind what's going on, rather than make it just a pinup shot of a sexy girl in a bathing suit of a strange style. One of the things I like about Vampirella is that she has the potential to be a completely sexist character, but usually manages to overcome that...as opposed to a lot of other superhero women, when they're frequently accessory team members and just an excuse to show a woman in a revealing costume.
