*He originally conceived of them when he was in kindergarten, and the Bone characters have kept 34-year-old Jeff Smith busy ever since. From 1982 to 1985, Smith, an Ohio native, wrote and drew Bone as a daily strip for his Ohio State University campus newspaper. Smith wanted to continue printing Bone a a strip after college, but found out that he wouldn't hAVE creative control if he did it that way. His solution: self-publishing Bone in comic book form for his company, Cartoon Books, beginning in 1991. The artist/writer, who now resides in california, conceives of Bone as more than a full-time job, and plans on working for a long time on the book which has made him famous.
