Is Carnage Gwen or is Gwen Carnage? This is a crazy story, but I found it compelling. S.H.I.L.D. has taken Carnage into custody and is beginning their interrogation. This makes for a pretty cool exchange as Carnage takes on the form of Gwen. You actually begin to emphasize with Carnage, and sincerely hope that he (she) can somehow get away. Well, guess what? Yep, Norman Osborn (the Green Goblin) creates enough of a distraction that Gwen (Carnage) escapes.
In the mean time Eddie Brock threatens Peter Parker with full disclosure to the media if Peter doesn’t get the Venom Symbiote back for him. So, what to do? I enjoyed the well written thoughts of Peter Parker as he battled with this dilemma. Brian Michael Bendis is one of those writers that can tell a bad story well. It was fast paced and interesting and lead to a cliff hanger ending panel.
The art work of Stuart Immonen is good. He is not my favorite artist, but he can defiantly portray the emotion that a young 16 year old girl would feel if she was connected to Carnage. Also, the emotion is brought to life while Peter searches for information about the Venom Symbiote. But the best panel is of course the final panel of the book.
This book is good. The story is not my favorite, but if they have to bring Gwen back from the dead, this is as good a way as any. I think maybe Bendis is just too busy with too many books to excel in all of his stories. So, this is an OK book and I’ll just leave it at that.
